There are some watches that make it really difficult to put an overall impression into words. This watch is definitely one of them.
Unusual and Stunning are the two that come to our minds. A solid 18K Yellow Gold case, with a solid 18K Gold dial, and the highest grade micro-rotor automatic movement – all made by one of the Great names in the watch industry. It just doesn’t get any better! The whole package is just an exceptional timepiece in completely original, untouched condition and what style! This watch had to be top-of-line for Universal Genève at the time.
This late 1950s men’s wristwatch is housed in an original finish, solid 18K Yellow Gold case. The case features a matte grained finished with a high-polished bezel and high-polished extended lugs. Other features include a raised gold bezel marked for hour intervals. It is high polished also. The only real wear we see on this vintage timepiece is to the caseback from a case opener and that’s pretty minor. It measures 30mm across at its narrowest point without the signed crown, and 42mm at the lugs. It wears bigger than it sounds.
The watch also features (rarely seem in any high-grade timepiece) a solid 18K gold dial. The outstanding original finish, signed Universal Genève dial is solid gold and features a vertical grained finish. Perfectly matched gold faceted hands and applied gold Universal Genève logo at 12 complete the look. Powering the watch is a signed Universal Genève Caliber 255 Super Micro-rotor Movement with 28 Jewels, marked Adjusted to 2 Positions. Running great and keeping excellent time.
The watch comes fully and correctly serviced including a new mainspring and crystal. The case was completely disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned. It was otherwise untouched. We paired it with a wonderful handmade brown Lizard strap. Outstanding condition overall, even more so when considering it is over 60 years old.
