This is an original vintage Glycine Airman 24 hr pilots watch, Circa late 1968. This one is a true Vietnam-era production watch. It features a 36mm stainless steel case with a brushed steel bezel. The 24-hour bezel was revolutionary when it was introduced because it allowed for the quick display of two timezones. Plus once the second timezone was set the bezel is locked in place with the crown at 4 o’clock. The case itself is a Compressor style with a snapback and of course, it features the “correct” crosshatched crown. This particular watch features the A. Shield cal. 2063 movement which is the least common of the various movements used in the Airman. This is a non-hacking movement so Glycine had it fitted with a wire hack so it stops the hands at “Zero Point” on the dial. The seconds hand comes around and is stopped by a wire coming through the dial at the center of the 24-hour marker. It’s very cool features and most Airman watches no longer have their feature intact. This watch does and it works perfectly. In fact, the entire watch has been recently serviced and is running strong and keeping very good. The collector we purchased the watch from had it serviced by a watchmaker who specializes in restoring these vintage Glycine Airman. Very nicely done and everything works as it should. Even the case was left unpolished as it should be. Cleaned only so it looks like a vintage watch should. A new brown leather sports strap was installed and the watch has not been used since.
